Matthew Lani, a popular TikTok user who impersonated a doctor, is reportedly homeless and without a car. The Bogus Dr Matthew Lani recently revealed to Sunday World that he moved in with his mother in March after losing everything.
“Since January 2024, my mother has resided and worked at a building as a caretaker,” Lani tells me.
“So, after losing my apartment, car, and everything else because of the Dr Matthew dilemma, I moved in with her in March,” according to him.
It is believed that he began living with his mother in Windsor East, west of Johannesburg. His mother worked at the building at the start of the year but was eventually evicted.
He also reveals that the owner gave his mother notice to vacate the property in July.
Dr. Matthew Lani became well-known for his medical advice and HIV activism while posing as a registered doctor.
In October 2023, Sowetan reported that Dr Sanele Zingelwa, whose identity was allegedly stolen by “Dr Matthew Lani,” said the saga had put a strain on him and his family.
Zingelwa, an intern at Tembisa Hospital in Ekurhuleni, broke his silence with a statement from his employer.
“I must state unequivocally that I do not know the so-called ‘Dr Matthew Lani’. His actions have put a lot of strain on not only me, but also on my family. It’s unfortunate that he would use social media for his own selfish purposes.”
“I reported identity fraud to the South African Police Service. I hope the bogus doctor is brought to justice. “I would like to request that the SAPS and the entire justice system work quickly to resolve this matter,” Dr Zingelwa said in a statement.
